We are standing up against POVERTY. Please join us.

In the year 2000, heads of 189 nations came together at the United Nations Millennium Summit to commit to work together to end poverty and to build a safer, more prosperous and equitable world for all by 2015. This pledge of theirs gave birth to eight Millennium Development Goals (MDG's).

1. End Hunger
2. Universal Education
3. Gender Equity
4. Child Health
5. Maternal Health
6. Combat HIV / AIDS
7. Environment Sustainability
8. Global Partnership

This year, Farashati is also taking part in the campaign - Stand up. Take Action. End Poverty by 2015.

Its very simple and easy to help. All you have to do is assemble at Satwa Park (behind four point Sheraton) at Sheikh Zayed Road,Dubai at sharp 5:00 pm on Friday,October 16, 2009.

We are collecting uncooked food items like rice, flour, sugar and canned foods that you need to ensure will not expire for atleast one year from the date of its collection.(We are not collecting money in this campaign).

These food items will be collected from you and distributed by the UAE Red Crescent along with volunteers from IAHV and Art of Living to deserving individuals and families listed with them in the UAE.

Agenda for the evening
5:00 - Assemble at park and collect donation
5:10 - Counting the number of people who have joined us
5:15 - Stand up and take a Pledge
5:25 - Group Picture to send to the organizers
5:30 - Disperse :)

We just require a few minutes of your time to make this event a success in helping people who are less fortunate and eradicate hunger and poverty.

Inspired by nature....

A flowerless room is a soulless room, to my way of thinking: but even one solitary little vase of a living flower may redeem it.   - by english author and Poet, Vita Sackville-West

Hmm....then how about adding some flower power to our 'already overflowing' accessory collection :))

Hanami Real Flower Jewelry is made of.....real, natural flowers! Yes real flowers that are individually handpicked and covered with resin to give a hard durable finish. Each piece unique and inspired by nature itself.

This blue Dendrobium set is just ideal to spice up a pair of jeans and costs only $84!

The colors of the these rose petal earrings also caught my eye and at just $37, they are a bargain!

....And they ship anywhere in the world for a flat fee of $10.00 per order! Gorgeous!

Makeup Adikt !

So sorry I haven't written for so long, have been busy with Eid celebrations, trying out lots of glamorous eye makeup to welcome the festive spirit :)

I tried the Arabic makeup look with the combination of pink and bright blue on the first day and it worked out fab...all the credit goes to MakeupAdikt’s video!
The Megan Fox inspired look is also another favorite. The girls had a gala time trying it out, although the red lipstick can be tricky so do be careful.

And the best one was this Arabic inspired smokey black and pink makeup! Loved the way the liner is done in the inner eye.
Its not as hard as it seems and we were all novice but did just fine. Just make sure you have the right brushes from MAC and you can experiment with colors on your own makeup palette that closely match the colors that were used in the video.
Loved the cello-tape trick and I know I will be using a lot of it to create magic for my eyes. Try it to have loads of fun and feel pretty!

Heidi Merrick

Came across this stunning designer and fell in love with her work....The striped skirt is simply gorgeous and I had to share it with all of you.

This dress is another one of my favorites - Love the exaggerated bow!(It is up for sale at $561 at their online store).

And then I come across this amazing blog 'Delight by design' that translates some of her designs with interior decoration! (I have fallen head over heels for sure :D)

Styling a head scarf

A lot of you have asked me on how to wear the different styles of head scarfs that you have seen on my models. I plan to do a step by step procedure next time when I have a photo shoot so that those interested can try out the different styles.

But just for your knowledge, I simply experiment a lot on the previous day of a shoot on any one of my friends whose head is free :P mostly poor Nadia gets caught up as I try stunts on her!

Style Tip: Accessorize your head scarf!

Here I have used a bronze sequins flower on a plain blue silk scarf.

You can also buy cute head bands to jazz up any plain scarf. Check out the Coach Daphne Headbands at US $ 148, a must have accessory to add glamor to your head scarf or to fix a bad hair day.

I also saw this really cool site that showcases excellent ideas of wearing Hijab :)

Al Jawaher Photoshoot

I saw this picture of Mag on facebook and thought hmm, how do I get her to look more 'middle eastern' for our photo-shoot? I remember telling my make-up artist, give her smoky look eyes, and more bronzer on her skin... whatever it is, I need her to look like she is from here...

Mag is a polish girl or at least she was till my stylist did wonders on her ;)By the time she was ready, we had a celebrity in our hands and I was totally pleased with the magic of my make-up girl :))

Doesn't she look like Bollywood actress - Katrina Kaif? (She even knows a word of Hindi - 'achaa hai'!! lol! Meaning - its good :)

Mag was such a pleasure to work with.....I think we all fell in love with her :)

For those who don't know Katrina Kaif, below is a picture of the celebrity.

Missing Micheal Jackson...

Pictures of the new wax figure of MJ revealed at Madame Tussauds Hollywood in Los Angeles this month brought a lot of memories back again. The tragic loss of the star, the shock, the pictures of the fans in sorrow….for me memories of his dance movements. As a kid, I loved imitating him and perhaps did the moonwalk better than the cute boy next door.

And apart from being a popstar, his personal fashion statement always set a new trend, be it the single sequined gloves or his red leather jacket with zipper details from thriller album, or the shoulder pads. (If you are looking for some MJ inspired pieces, check out the Balmain Fall-Winter 2009-2010 Ready-to Wear collection)

Sequins were his favorite and always a part of his signature look. Sequin jackets, sequin armbands, gold epaulettes truly defined his perspective of style and let’s admit it only MJ could carry those sequins with such panache.

Fans swamp the Jackson family home in Encino to pay there last respects to Micheal Jackson.

It was great seeing celebrities donning MJ inspired styles and we did our part too by designing sequined kaftans for the boutique.

I also found these beads that were similar to the Givenchy jacket he had worn and incorporated it into one of our designs.

This piece is now available at Kraze boutique in Dubai.

You can call me silly or just about crazy but I have grown up listening to MJ and dancing to his tunes. It was just my way of saying, I am going to miss him bad.

Its WAR!

What are the odds of me having a bad cold and cough just on the morning when I have a radio interview that too from South Africa. I mean, didn't my throat get a better day to get all itchy! Best part I am fasting so I cant even grab a lozenge....hmm...so here I am early morning in bed with a heavy head, wrapped up in a blanket looking like an Eskimo (thank heavens its not on TV!).

It was a battle ground with my brain clearly trying to concentrate on answering the RJ's question and at the same time holding my breath to control that cough around the corner! Still it all went well and I enjoyed chatting with the bubbly presenter. 'Am Drive' show did prove to be an accelerating start to my Friday morning :)

And by evening I had my next reason to smile with my pretty fan (who is also a good friend) for posting up her pic at Facebook wearing a Farashati dress. She looked so beautiful and carefree ....plus she uploaded it on my fan page with a thank you note :)
Love these moments...

Cant think of a better one than my first customer. The email on her daughter trying to imitate her with the FARASHATi head scarf said it all...
